Sea Buckthorn Oil: The Miracle Age-Reversing Skin Oil
Sea Buckthorn Oil: Discover The Anti-Aging Skincare Secret that Reverses Aging in Desert Dwellers
What is sea buckthorn oil?
Sea buckthorn oil is made from the sea buckthorn plant’s seeds, berries, or a combination of the two. Sea buckthorn is native to Europe and Asia. It’s been mentioned in many ancient cultures, including Greek mythology, Chinese and Ayurvedic materia medica, and ancient Tibetan texts, to name a few.
Its Latin name is Hippophae rhamnoides, which means “tree that makes the horse hair shine.” Its massively skin- and hair-regenerating qualities were first discovered when people saw how it made horse hair lustrous and smooth. In ancient Tibet it was referred to as “liquid gold”.
Sea buckthorn oil has a rich amber color, and indeed is a very precious oil. That's why it's a featured oil in Desert Dweller Highly Restorative Serum. We use oils from the seeds and the fruit for maximum anti-aging results.
Read on to discover just how sea buckthorn oil delivers its age-reversing skincare benefits.
Benefit 1: Repairs Sun Damage in Desert-Dwelling Skin
Sea buckthorn oil has long been known to repair damaged skin, whether the damage is due to inflammatory processes like eczema, rashes, or excessive sun exposure. I attribute this quality to its exceptionally hight content of vitamin A, which is a well-documented skin-repair vitamin. Vitamin A can actually penetrate to the level of our skin cells’ DNA to not only protect it (via its antioxidant qualities), but also to direct skin cell turnover by activating the DNA inside our skin cells.
Sea buckthorn oil has been used for centuries to help heal burns, cuts, wounds in addition to healing rashes and sun damage. I also attribute this to its high vitamin A content, but it also contains other compounds and antioxidants that work synergistically with vitamin A to encourage tissue healing.
Sea buckthorn oil’s benefits don’t stop there. Its high omega-fatty acid content helps restore health to skin cells that have been damaged by sun, toxins, chemicals, and the environment. Omega fatty acids do this by supporting the structure of skin cells from the outside in: they can replace damaged molecules to repair cells. Omega fatty acids are also highly anti-inflammatory, which can help calm many inflammatory skin conditions including eczema and rosacea. Sea buckthorn oil is an abundant source of omega-7 fatty acids, which are pretty hard to come by in our diet.
Benefit 2: Regenerates Skin from the Inside Out
The deeply penetrating quality of sea buckthorn oil brings the concentrated nutrients down to the level of actively reproducing cells, encouraging healthy skin cell production. The net effect here is rejuvenated skin that is bright and youthful. Sea buckthorn oil actively slows down the signs of aging by promoting skin cell regeneration.
Sea buckthorn oil is a nutrient powerhouse of vitamins and minerals that support healthy skin cell production and function. Its nutrient profile includes vitamins A, C, E, manganese, iron, copper, and selenium. All of these have important functions to promote healthy skin regeneration and function. The net result is not only skin that looks brighter and younger: regular use actually slows down the clock on your skin’s age.
Benefit 3: Powerfully Protects Skin from Damage
Sea buckthorn oil contains an exceptionally high amount of antioxidants. These antioxidants not only repair skin damage, but they also help protect skin from the damaging effects of daily sun exposure, wind, and dust and grime in our air. Our skin today is exposed to more damaging toxins and pollutants in the air than humans have ever had to contend with; these toxins can directly damage skin cells by infiltrating them and shutting down their natural capacity to repair themselves. The powerful antioxidant effects of sea buckthorn oil reverse the damaging effects of sun, wind, dirt and toxins that would cause wrinkles and collagen loss and ultimately, early aging.
The combination of its high vitamins E and C protect skin synergistically: vitamin E, a fat-soluble vitamin, can nestle its way into the outer surfaces of our skin cells. Here, it provides direct protection by neutralizing free radicals from the sun, from dirt, toxins, and chemicals that would cause cell damage and therefore early aging. Vitamin C, a water-soluble vitamin, travels in the spaces between skin cells and not only neutralizes water-based free radicals, but it also regenerates vitamin E to help prolong the life of healthy skin cells.
Sea buckthorn oil also contains a potent natural antioxidant called SOD, or superoxide dismutase. SOD is an enzyme that neutralizes free radicals that cause irreparable skin cell damage. In fact, it's one of the most powerful antioxidants we have.
